Northern New York Amateur Radio Association (NNYARA) News and Information

The Northern New York Amateur Radio Association (NNYARA) is composed of ham radio clubs in the Adirondack Mountains and adjacent areas of northern New York State stretching from the Canadian border to the Mohawk Valley including Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis, Montgomery, St. Lawrence, Schoharie counties (the ARRL NNY Section).

NNYARA NEWS and EVENTS:

NNYARA Spring Meeting: Saturday June 2, 10 AM @ Long Lake Town Hall. There will be a NBEMS demo and we will also be testing the effectiveness of 10 meter SSB for mobile communications on the way to or from the meeting. Meet on 28.400.

New Six Meter Repeater in Syracuse on 53.67 / 52.67 PL 103.5. Antenna is the former Channel 3 TV antenna at the top of an 850 foot tower. If you could receive channel 3 you may be able to work this repeater. Expected activation May 5 or 6. See kd2sl.com for details.

Adirondack Fire Towers On The Air: NNYARA is promoting operation from current and former fire tower mountains. We'd like to coordinate operations to enhance the chances of making contacts, and eventually have a system of awards and recognition. See the FireTowerRadio.net web site for more information. If you are planning to operating from a current or former Adirondack Fire Tower location - or any other interesting location in ate Adirondacks - let others know by posting on the FireTowerRadio Yahoo Group. June and September ARRL VHF QSO Party: Second full weekend in June and second full weekend in September. Begins 1800 UTC Saturday, runs through 0259 UTC Monday. Perfect opportunity for fire tower or other mountaintop operations. All NNY stations encouraged to participate just using using a 2 meter HT or mobile on simplex frequencies. Field Day Site Directory: Field Day is over. Many NNY clubs and groups participated. Keep in mind for next year that if your club or group is planning to operate Field Day, please KC2WI with your information to be be posted in the NNYARA Field Day Directory, so that anyone looking for a Field Day site to visit in and around the Adirondacks can find you.

I would like to add a full NNY Net Directory to the NNYARA web site. Please email information about your net(s) to KC2WI.
The North Country Group meets Sunday mornings at 8:30 AM on 3958.
NNYARA is also encouraging everyone to tune in to 3958 and give a call afternoons between about 5:30 and 6:30. You may also hear NNY Stations on the Carrier Net 3935 weekday and Saturday mornings at 9 AM (eastern) or the pre-net at 8:30.
The Top Band SSB Net meets 8:30 PM Wednesdays on 1941.
